Comments on wine list/beer: This is one of the places for Real Ale in Reading. Most beers under £3 a pint.
Summary:
The Jolly Anglers was closed down last year. After campaigning by various groups (drinkers, press, political parties etc), it was sold on and re-opened under the previous landlord on 1 April.
This is not the place to drive to as parking along the Kennet is practically impossible. If you drive, park in one of the side street on the north side of Cemetery Junction.
Best approach is to park in the Water Park (Thames Valley Business Park) or Tesco (Kings Meadow) or Queens Road car park and walk to this pub.
They usually have at least 5 guest ales on tap during the weekend.
On the day I went, it was after 2 and only sandwiches were available. I had a wholemeal cheese and onion bap for £1.50.
The only beer that was available was Fagin which was light and refreshing. The Ascot Ale (Ally Cat) was off.
This is not a place for food but if you need to eat it is ok. It’s just a great stop over (loo and beer) if you go for a walk along the Thames Path from Reading to Sonning or the other way.
By the way, food in the Fisherman’s Cottage (20 yards along) is better but the beers are not so interesting.

Well, if you have never tried it, this is what the Koreans eat – pickled cabbage with chilli! A little goes with a lot of rice.
