There’s a saying that in Singapore a political discussion goes silent almost immediately whereas debates about food can go on for days. The place is packed full of fantastic restaurants. A walk around the various ethnic districts—Indian, Chinese, Malaysian, Arabic—will be very rewarding indeed. In common with many other Asian cities Singapore has lots of food markets where you can buy and sit and eat the “street food”. I’d fully recommend that you try what is in effect the national dish of both Malaysia and Singapore – Nasi Lemak, which is perfect for breakfast or indeed any other time of day. A few years ago I was queuing with a friend to buy ourselves Nasi Lemak for breakfast and he confided to me that the front of the queue was his favourite place in Singapore.
